Volunteer Driver Agreement & Release

You drive as an unpaid volunteer of your church's transportation ministry. You are not an employee, contractor, or agent of the Church or the Platform, and no ride creates one. You are never obligated to claim or complete any ride, and you may stop volunteering at any time.

You will not accept payment from riders. If the Church reimburses your expenses, that happens outside the app at or below CRA reasonable-allowance rates.

You hold a valid driver's licence of the proper class for your vehicle, not suspended or expired, and you are medically fit to drive.

You will tell your coordinator immediately — before your next ride — if your licence is suspended, if you are charged with a driving-related offence, or if anything else happens that affects your ability to drive safely.

You consent to the Church verifying your licence and insurance, and to any additional screening the Church's own policies require (for example, a criminal record or vulnerable sector check), before you are approved and periodically after.

You maintain valid automobile insurance on the vehicle you drive, and you understand that YOUR policy is the primary coverage for any accident — for damage, for other drivers, and for your passengers. Neither the Church nor the Platform insures you, your vehicle, or your passengers.

You will carry third-party liability coverage at the limit your church requires ($2,000,000 is the common standard for volunteer driver programs; $1,000,000 is the floor).

You have told, or will tell, your insurance provider that you do unpaid volunteer driving. (In Canada, unpaid volunteer driving is generally not “driving for compensation”, but disclosure is your responsibility.) You will keep your coverage in force and tell your coordinator immediately if it lapses.

You are responsible for your own deductibles and any change in your premiums.

The vehicle you drive is registered, roadworthy, and mechanically safe, with working seatbelts for every seat you offer. You will keep it reasonably clean and appropriate for the riders you carry, including any mobility equipment they bring.

You will obey all traffic laws, including speed limits and Alberta's distracted-driving law — no handheld phone use while driving.

Zero impairment: no alcohol, cannabis, or impairing medication before or while driving for C-Cab.

Seatbelts on for everyone, every ride. You will carry your licence, registration, and insurance card on every ride.

You will treat riders with dignity and patience: knock rather than honk, greet them by name, offer a steady arm to the door if they'd like one, secure walkers and mobility aids properly, and take no detours without the rider's agreement.

You will keep riders' personal information (addresses, phone numbers, health or mobility notes) confidential and use it only to complete their rides. You will not solicit money, gifts, or anything else from riders.

In any collision or injury: people first. Stop, ensure care, and comply with the law. Then report the incident to your coordinator (and in the app) within 24 hours, and cooperate honestly with any insurer's investigation.

If a rider doesn't answer or a ride can't be completed, you will use the app's hand-back rather than silently not showing up, so the church can cover the rider another way.

Driving carries inherent risks — collisions, injury, vehicle damage, loss of time. You volunteer with full knowledge of these risks and accept them for yourself.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release the Platform and the Church, and their personnel, from claims for your own losses arising out of ordinary negligence connected with your volunteering — this does not apply to gross negligence or wilful misconduct, and it does not waive rights that cannot be waived by law (including statutory accident benefits under your own policy).

You agree to be responsible for, and to indemnify the Church and the Platform against, claims arising from your own negligent or unlawful acts while volunteering, to the extent not covered by insurance.

You consent to the app storing your profile, vehicle description, licence and insurance images (visible only to your coordinator), ride history, and — only when you turn it on for a ride — your live location, which is shared with that ride's rider and stops when the ride ends. You may drive only after your Church approves you, and the Church may pause or remove you at any time without cause. You may stop at any time. Sections 6–8 survive the end of your volunteering.

This agreement is governed by the laws of Alberta. You sign electronically by checking the affirmations and typing your full legal name, and you agree that signature is valid and binding.
